Program Overview
The Rockdale County ESOL program provides support for English language acquisition and development of skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing through content-based instruction. The ESOL teachers work in collaboration with classroom and other teachers to support language acquisition of academic and social skills. The ESOL program encourages the student's positive recognition and value of their culture and the diverse culture of others. The ESOL teachers work in collaboration with families to ensure students and families receive the support they need to be successful in their learning environment.
Mission
The mission of the ESOL program is to provide a diverse population of non-native speakers of English a variety of courses, activities, and events, which can help them eliminate linguistic barriers.
Vision
The vision of the ESOL program is to be a world-class learning community where all English Learners reach English proficiency and graduate college or career ready in a progressive and interconnected society.
We achieve this mission and vision through:
• ESOL Coaches at the Kindergarten, Elementary, and Secondary levels who are experienced and support student's academic success and well-being
• Individualized schedule planning for English Learners
• A diverse range of high school courses to teach and support academic and language objectives
• Integration of the WIDA English Language Development (ELD) Standards with the Georgia Standards of Excellence
• Consistent demonstration of the 6 Principles of Exemplary Instruction for English Learners
• Expanded community engagement aimed and celebrating the cultures and languages of all students
