Student Testing FAQs

Student COVID-19 Testing FAQs

Through its partnership with Kids’-Doc-on-Wheels (KDOW), RCPS will be providing free COVID-19 testing to all students and their parents. Although not required, all students who are returning to campus on a hybrid schedule and student athletes are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity as an additional means of reducing the spread of the virus. Please review the FAQs below for more details.

Does a parent need to be present?
*A parent or legal guardian needs to attend to consent to the COVID testing for students younger than age 18. If a non-custodial adult brings the student for COVID testing, that student should bring a copy of the parent’s/guardian’s driver’s license and a letter granting permission for the student to have COVID testing. This method will also be allowed for student-athletes that come in testing.

What do I need to bring with me?
There are TWO separate items you must bring.

If you are under the age of 18, you must be accompanied by a Parent/Guardian* and bring:
1.    Parent/Guardian's driver’s license or state issued ID
AND

2.    Student's health insurance card or student's Social Security Number (if student is uninsured).

If you are age 18 or older, you must bring:
1.    Driver's license or state-issued ID
AND
2.    Health insurance card or Social Security Number (if uninsured).

Do I need to pre-register for testing?
Pre-registering a day in advance is required.  Walk-ups/drive-ups are welcome. Patients who do not pre-register will still be able to be tested and will be asked to register when they arrive, which may slow down the process on-site.
Go to http://www.freecovidtesting.us
and click on "Registration" and then "COVID Testing" and then "Rockdale County Schools" and then select a date.  The website will also ask you to choose an appointment time; THESE ARE NOT REAL APPOINTMENT TIMES.  Please be aware that we are serving first-come, first-served in the drive-through line during the scheduled times, not by appointment times selected on this site.

If I have more than one student, will I have to complete multiple registrations?
Yes, each individual will need to complete the quick registration, either in advance or on-site.

When will I get my results?
Polymerase Chair Reaction (PCR) tests are free and PCR results should be received within 48 hours of being tested. Further details will be given at the time of testing. Results may take longer to reach the lab if pre-registration was not completed.

What is the format of testing; do I go in the building?
Testing hosted at 954 N. Main Street will require you to park your car and go to the building.

Can I bring family members to be tested with me?
RCPS students, age 5 and above, and their parents/guardians may be tested.

What if my results are positive?
Please plan for virtual instruction and avoid team athletics until cleared by a physician or at least 10 days have passed since symptoms first appeared and symptoms have resolved.  Please contact your school or coach and notify them of your positive results.

What if I have symptoms and I am waiting on my results?
If you are unwell, you should not enter any RCPS campus until those symptoms have been resolved. If you receive a positive test result plan for virtual instruction and avoid team athletics until cleared by a physician or at least 10 days have passed since symptoms first appeared and symptoms have resolved. Please contact your school or coach and notify them of your positive results.
