Georgia Parent Mentor Program
Parents of children with disabilities are often faced with very complex
issues. The special education maze can be confusing and finding the help
and support you need for your child can be overwhelming. In August
2003, the position of Parent Mentor for Special Education was
implemented in our school system. This position is a parent-driven
initiative by the Department of Education to assist Georgia local school
systems in employing a parent of a child with a disability to advise,
educate, and support school system families on a daily basis.
If you would like to talk to another parent who understands your concerns
and knows how to build effective working relationships with your child's
teachers, the parent mentor project may be able to help you. The
Georgia Parent Mentor Program is a free service available to all Georgia
parents.
