Elementary FAQs

Will the school district provide a device for my student?
Rockdale County Public Schools (RCPS) is a One-to-One district. All students in grades PK-12 receive a school-issued device to use for schoolwork. Check your school's website for information about making an appointment for picking up your device. Your schools will communicate to you information about picking up your school issued device. Please make sure your contact information is updated in your Infinite Campus Parent Portal account and your annual forms are signed in the Infinite Campus Parent Portal account. (For questions and information about Infinite Campus Parent Portal accounts, visit www.rockdaleschools.org/infinitecampus.)

What do I do if my student's device is broken or we need technical support?
Parents and students can make an appointment with their school's Intel team or DLS for technical support. Click here to find your school's staff directory.
Click here for additional Parent Technical Support.

What if have limited internet access or no internet access?
Click here for information on low-cost or free internet providers. In addition, RCPS is developing plans to deploy internet hotspots in parked RCPS school buses at key locations for RCPS students to use with RCPS school-issued devices. Click here for more information.

What is the attendance expectation for virtual learning?
Students will be required to participate in synchronous and asynchronous learning. Students are expected to attend instructional sessions and complete all assignments. Attendance will be taken during each content block.  Faculty and staff will keep a log for attendance during enrichment, remediation, SEL, and advisement times. Students are allowed to leave class to pick up RCPS meals. Students, please let your teacher know if you need to leave during class time to pick up your RCPS meal.

What are synchronous and asynchronous learning?
Students will be required to participate in online meetings/lessons at specific times with their teachers (synchronous learning) and complete activities and assignments on their own time (asynchronous learning). Synchronous lessons can include direct instruction with time for guided and/or independent practice. Local schools and teachers will share weekly synchronous and asynchronous schedules through itsLearning.

What are the expectations for attending synchronous lessons?
Student expectations are below:
o    Login promptly at the scheduled time for your live class sessions using the RCPS issued device.
o    Questions and conversations should be related to the lesson.
o    Interactions with others should be respectful.
o    Cameras should be on during lessons.
o    Students are expected to remain in the session and actively participate.
o    Students will be expected to request permission if they need to step away from the session.
o    If there are multiple students in your home, each student needs to log into a session individually.
o    To limit learning disruptions during live class sessions, students should follow their local school’s PBIS expectations. If a student is causing a disruption that negatively impacts the learning environment or engages in behavior that is prohibited, they will be removed from the live class session and their parents will be contacted.

What if my student is not able to attend the synchronous class sessions?
Daily attendance is the expectation for all virtual students. If a student misses a session a written excuse must be submitted to the teacher following RCPS Board Policy. The student will then be required to review the recorded lesson within 24 hours and complete all assignments.

Will my student receive lunch?
RCPS School Nutrition is developing a plan to provide meals to students using elementary bus stop locations. Where applicable, these meals may require your normal school lunch charges. To apply for Free and Reduced Lunch, click here. Check back later for more information.

How will my student receive additional help if needed?
Teachers will provide support during the intervention/enrichment blocks. Students may also request additional support from the teachers and/or the school counselor. Local schools will provide information on teachers’ office hours and how to request additional assistance.
