CTAE middle school courses feature rigorous performance standards that students master to help prepare them for choosing a high school career pathway that interests them.

These courses provide students with an introduction to the Family and Consumer Sciences (FACS) Career Pathways. The FACS career pathways are Nutrition and Food Science, Consumer Services, Interior and Fashion Design, and Family, Community, and Global Leadership. Education career pathways are Early Childhood Education and Teaching as a Profession and Culinary Arts is also a career pathway. Students acquire fundamental knowledge and skills necessary for success in any of the career pathways. Exposure to career possibilities in each area allows students to successfully integrate their own interests into a career plan.

These courses provide students with an exploratory introduction to several healthcare careers and the safety procedures and interpersonal communication skills required for them. These courses enable students to receive initial exposure to healthcare science skills; attitudes applicable to healthcare including the concepts of health, wellness, and preventative care; and responsibilities of today's healthcare provider.

These courses provide students with an introduction to the Law, Public Safety, Corrections and Security Career Cluster. Students examine the basic concepts of firefighting, emergency management services, disaster preparedness, CERT and security and protective services along with the criminal justice system and the basic concepts of law related to citizens’ rights and the responsibilities,

These courses provide middle school students with an introduction to business office administration, business management operations and foundations in financial and investing operations. Students will explore how personality traits and personal values align with career choices and will develop a career plan. Personal, professional, and ethical standards of behavior for the workplace will be examined and reinforced in the classroom.

These courses provide an exploratory foundation in computer programming, information systems, networking, and cybersecurity. Through integrated instructional activities, students have opportunities to apply employability skills and to research possible career options in the information technology area. Students also complete many hands-on activities to build a foundation in computer hardware and connectivity, computer coding, and designing interactive programs.

These courses provide students with an introduction to basic marketing concepts and skills that allow them to use the marketing information through project-based instruction. The courses encourage entrepreneurial interests and develop entrepreneurial abilities thereby fostering the idea of self-employment as an income generating option. Students develop basic personal and social skills through their development of portfolios and the delivery of presentations.

These courses provide students with an introduction to broadcast/video productions and graphic design.  Topics covered may include but are not limited to history of mass media, safety, basic equipment, script writing, storyboarding, production teams, planning, writing, directing, recording and editing a production and professional ethics. Students will also acquire a fundamental understanding of the graphic communications and design industry. Topics covered include theories and practices to create aesthetically pleasing designs and best methods for working with consumers.

These courses provide middle school students with an introduction to broad agriculture and agribusiness concepts. Students will know how the agricultural industry affects their lives. Laboratory instruction provides "hands-on" skills of the concepts. The Supervised Agricultural Experience Program (SAE) utilizes both classroom and lab experiences. Leadership skills and improved student performance are developed through participation in FFA.

These courses help middle school students build a strong knowledge base and develop skills related to logistics in the transportation sector with a focus on aerospace. Tasks to be taught include knowledge of local and federal safety issues, careers, transportation components, tools and equipment, current and alternative fuel sources, oral and written communication and related physical science principles.
