What is Dual Enrollment?

Dual Enrollment (DE) provides high school students with the opportunity to take college courses for both college and high school credits. Students interested in DE are encouraged to talk with their high school counselor as early as possible to ensure all deadlines are met. Students, parents/guardians, and counselors should together carefully assess whether DE is a good fit for the student. Students should be aware that college courses are typically more rigorous than high school courses and move at a faster pace. Also, DE courses result in real college credit and the grades become a part of the student’s permanent college record. Grades earned through DE could impact future eligibility for college admission and scholarships as well as high school graduation.

1) Students interested in participating in Rockdale County Public Schools’ Dual Enrollment program for 2025-2026 should either attend one of the Dual Enrollment Night meetings held in November or watch this Dual Enrollment presentation video: CLICK HERE.

2) Students should read and complete all steps on the 2025-2026 RCPS DE Checklist (CLICK HERE or see below) in addition to discussing your options with your home school counselor during 2025-2026 Academic Advisement.

Dual Enrollment Checklist for 2025-26

This checklist provides the steps needed to participate in the RCPS Dual Enrollment program.

___ Attend a required dual enrollment meeting sponsored by the RCPS Counseling program or view the dual enrollment virtual meeting recording to get information regarding the dual enrollment program, course options, and application process.

_ Join the 25-26 RCPS Dual Enrollment Remind : text @gk2eha6 to 81010 .

__ Discuss dual enrollment options with your parent/guardian. Discuss transportation to and from campus, if needed.

_ Check the admissions requirements of the college/university you plan to attend. Ensure the MINIMUM admissions requirements are met.

Check with the college/university to determine if they offer in-house ACCUPLACER, SAT, and/or ACT testing.

If needed register to take the ACT, SAT, and/or ACCUPLACER. Register for the SAT at http://www.collegeboard.com or the ACT at www.act.org. When registering online, send test scores to the college directly from the testing site.

Complete and submit an admissions application.

Ensure that your social security number is correct on all application materials (for funding purposes).

Request an official transcript along with any other required documentation to the dual enrollment office. Transcript requests are made through your home school counselor or the Dual Enrollment Specialist.

Make sure you submit any other documents required for admission to the college (participation agreement, advisement form, registration hold, etc.)

Complete your GAFutures Dual Enrollment Funding Application; make sure your parent/guardian completes the Parent Participation Agreement. (CLICK HERE for instructions)

__ Once you have been accepted to the college, meet with your home school counselor to review your transcript and determine what courses you need to graduate and how to arrange your high school and college/university schedules.

Bring this DE checklist and proof of your college acceptance (email or letter).

Non-Partner Colleges and Universities

To apply for Dual Enrollment classes with a college or university that is not an RCPS partner school, please speak with your home school counselor first. Then, research the Dual Enrollment admissions processes and deadlines of that school, follow all steps, and submit all required documents. Once you are accepted, please provide documentation of acceptance to your home school counselor to schedule your classes. Your home school counselor will also provide you with a permission form for you and your parent to complete and sign.

Summer Courses and Online Courses

The deadline to enroll in DE summer courses is May 1. You must have approval from your home school counselor prior to enrolling in summer courses if you want them to be entered on your high school transcript. Your counselor will give you a summer DE advisement form for you and your parent/guardian to complete.

You must discuss online classes with your home school counselor so that these classes can be placed on your high school schedule. Online DE classes fill up quickly with the undergraduates at our RCPS partner colleges; therefore, your home school counselor needs to know to communicate this with the DE Advisers at our partner schools so you can be scheduled accordingly.

Please make sure to do your research to know whether or not your college(s) of interest for your undergraduate studies will accept your DE credits.

NCAA and Dual Enrollment

Miscellaneous Items

• In-person DE classes for Clayton State University, GPTC, and Point University are taught at RCA. Transportation is provided by RCPS.

• In-person classes for GMC are taught at their Rockdale Campus at 1011 Rosser Street NW Conyers, GA 30012. Students must provide their own transportation.

• Students may take DE classes at non-RCPS partner colleges, but students must take those classes online or provide their own transportation to the campus, and those classes must fit within their high school schedule and class start times.

• No student will be scheduled for a DE course without counselor approval.
