Rockdale County Public Schools will be fully-virtual for the fall 2020 semester. Student schedules will be available in the Infinite Campus Portal starting on the following dates:

High Schools (grades 9-12) (including RCA, RVC, & ROC) – August 13, 2020.
Middle Schools (grades 6-8) (including RVC Middle) – August 19, 2020.
Elementary Schools – August 20, 2020.

FRIDAY
**Students will receive enrichment, remediation, specialized support, SEL and advisement on Fridays. Students will need to consult with their teachers regarding their log-in times.


All Academic Periods have Synchronous and Asynchronous Learning.
Synchronous Learning =  Students engage in learning, at the same time, with their instructor online.
Asynchronous Learning = Learning that does not occur in the same place or time (student works independently).

Please note class times may be slightly adjusted to accommodate RCPS lunch delivery schedule.





Middle School FAQs


Will the school district provide a device for my student?
Rockdale County Public Schools (RCPS) is a One-to-One district. All students in grades PK-12 receive a school-issued device to use for schoolwork. Check your school's website for information about making an appointment for picking up your device. Your schools will communicate to you information about picking up your school issued device. Please make sure your contact information is updated in your Infinite Campus Parent Portal account and your annual forms are signed in the Infinite Campus Parent Portal account. What do I do if my student's device is broken or we need technical support?
Parents and students can make an appointment with their school's Intel team or DLS for technical support. Click here to find your school's staff directory.

What if have limited internet access or no internet access?
Click here for information on low-cost or free internet providers. In addition, RCPS is developing plans to deploy internet hotspots in parked RCPS school buses at key locations for RCPS students to use with RCPS school-issued devices. Click here for more information.


What is the attendance expectation for virtual learning?
Student attendance will be taken daily during the face to face, synchronous virtual classes.
Students will be expected to stay in class for the entire  duration or until students are given opportunities to work independently.
Lessons will be recorded in Microsoft TEAMS.
Students are allowed to leave during class to pick up RCPS meals. Students, please let your teacher know if you need to leave during class time to pick up your RCPS meal. 


What are synchronous and asynchronous learning?
Students will be required to participate in online meetings/lessons at specific times with their teachers (synchronous learning) and complete activities and assignments on their own time (asynchronous learning). Synchronous lessons can include direct instruction with time for guided and/or independent practice.


What are the expectations for attending synchronous lessons?
Student expectations are below:
o    Students will be expected to log-in daily.
o    Students and teachers will have cameras on during instruction.
o    Students will submit work using itsLearning.
o    Students will be expected to follow our digital citizenship expectations.
o    Teachers will be expected to respond to student and parent inquiries daily.
o    Students will participate in academic support time, based on their enrichment/remediation needs.
o    Students will receive direction, from their instructors, regarding Friday class participation.
o    Technology help desk will be available to assist students with device challenges.
o    If there are multiple students in your home, each student needs to log into a session individually. 


What if my student is not able to attend the synchronous class sessions?
The student will be required to review the recorded lesson within 24 hours. The teacher must be notified prior to a student missing a live session and a written excuse must be submitted to the teacher following RCPS Board Policy.


Will students be graded?
Students will submit work via itsLearning platform.
Teachers will enter 1-2 grades a week that measure mastery of curriculum standards.
Teachers will teach all curriculum standards with an emphasis on course priority standards.
Differentiated support will be provided during academic support time and on Fridays.
Test will be administered virtually using specific software.


Will my student receive lunch?
RCPS School Nutrition is developing a plan to provide meals to students using elementary bus stop locations. Where applicable, these meals may require your normal school lunch charges. To apply for Free and Reduced Lunch, click here. Check back later for more information.


How will my student receive additional help if needed?
Teachers will provide support during the intervention/enrichment blocks. Students may also request additional support from the teachers and/or the school counselor.


Will there be school activities?
Students will continue to engage in their fine arts courses (theory focus and virtual conferencing to rehearse, produce and perform).
Virtual extra-curricular clubs/activities and Saturday school will begin once the academic school schedule has settled in for the year.
Awards ceremonies, student recognitions and celebrations will be incorporated in the virtual school environment.  No Middle School Fall sports.
