9/13/17:  Superintendent Richard Autry has been informed by local emergency management officials that there are many remaining power outages along with fallen, low hanging, and energized power lines around the county, making some areas unsafe for travel. Due to concerns for the safety of our students, staff and families, the Superintendent has closed Rockdale County Public Schools for Thursday 9/14/17. All 11 and 12 month (210 days or more a year) employees should report to work if safe to do so.

9/9/17:  Rockdale County Public Schools will be closed Monday, 9/11/17, and Tuesday, 9/12/17.

This decision was based on the most recent information from the National Weather Service, in conjunction with various Emergency Management Agencies (SEE BELOW). The timing of this announcement is also critical as RCPS wants to allow all parents to focus on whatever needs they may have to secure the safety and welfare of their families. In addition, RCPS wants to make sure that local law enforcement and emergency services have ample opportunity to identify and utilize all available assets to assist the community if needed.

The school system will continue to monitor the situation throughout the expected storm and make decisions on the continuation of school as the situation dictates. Updates at www.rockdaleschools.org/irma
