Deadline Extended for 2016 Fall Break Enrichment Camp Registration

Registration for 2016 Fall Intersession Enrichment Camps is open and the deadline has been extended to September 30, 2016.

From dance to computer game programming to film making to arts and crafts, the camps offer something for a wide variety of interests and are open to all youth in Rockdale County, grades 2-8.

The camps run Monday-Thursday, October 3-6, 2016, 7:45 a.m. - 11:45 a.m. at Rockdale Career Academy, 1064 Culpepper Rd, Conyers. Parents must register and pay the $50 camp fee by September 30, 2016 at the RCPS Office of Teaching and Learning, 1143 West Ave., Conyers, during office hours 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. Please ask for Holly Franklin.

Camp descriptions are as follows:

____Grade 2  Recycled Creations - Are you crafty but concerned about the effect that humans have on the environment? Well, this class is for you. Students will learn about the environment and the impact human activity can have on it. Then they will learn some creative ways to reuse, recycle, and re-purpose things normally considered waste into works of art. Students will make collages with recycled newspaper, magazines, books, sheet music paper and other recyclable products. Students will paint and decorate plastic, glass/aluminum bottles, jars and cans. They will make prints using recycled meat trays, egg cartons and styrofoam take out boxes. They will construct two-dimensional sculptures from scrap wood, metal and other found objects. 

____Grade 3-5 Dance Experience - Come and experience a week of dance with us! We will begin each day with a dance warm-up and conditioning combination. Students will also learn about dance basics and create their own choreography. This is a chance to learn Ballet and Jazz Dance technique. We will end our week with a dance presentation and performance!

____Grade 3-5 Create your own computer program! In this class, students will be introduced to the exciting world of computer coding! Ever dream of making your own video game? Do you have a great idea for a new iPhone app? Find out what it takes and take the first steps into computer programming. Students in this class will actually create their own working programs using Microsoft SmallBasic, a computer language designed for students. They will also get a chance to create digital artwork, design working video game levels and create their own fun sound effects.  A great mix of creativity and technology! 

____Grade 6-8  Film Making: 3,2,1, Action - Join us and prepare for your career as the world’s newest filmmaker. Four action-packed days of filmmaking! Students will create a movie trailer. This includes ideas, script, storyboard, set, props, acting, filming, editing, marketing and presentation.
