Ray Davis Middle School and runner-up Gloria Rolle of Edwards Middle School! Ramos' winning word came from entomology and ancient history - "scarab." Ramos and Rolle will advance to represent RCPS in the regional bee in February.

Thirteen contestants, ranging from third grade to eighth grade and each representing an elementary or middle school in RCPS, faced off in the RCPS Spelling Bee held January 17, 2025, at Edwards Middle School.

The district Bee's judges were Sherry Boudreaux (Lead Coaching Specialist with Let's Read Georgia), Andrea Pritchett (RCPS Coordinator for Literacy for Learning, Living, and Leading), and Jessica Bailey (RCPS K-5 District Math Coach). This year's announcer was Curt Zehner. RCPS Spelling Bee organizers included Literacy Coach Trinecia Ward, Language and Literacy Coordinator Shenita Russell, Language and Literacy Coordinator Charlene McGlockling, ELA and World Languages Coordinator Dr. Sha'Ronda McRae.

Thank you to our judges, organizers, coaches, and families for all your hard work! And a big round of applause for all our phenomenal spellers who participated! It takes courage to be on stage and compete and we are incredibly proud of all our contestants.
