Katrina Young Elected to Statewide Post 2016-2017

Katrina Young, Rockdale County school board member and GSBA vice presidentCONYERS, GA – Rockdale County Public Schools is pleased to announce that Ms. Katrina Young will continue to serve in a statewide post with the Georgia School Boards Association (GSBA) as Vice President.

Representatives from 124 school boards in Georgia recently met to approve the legislative positions of the association and to elect GSBA’s 2016-2017 officers.

Ms. Katrina Young, member of the Rockdale County School Board was installed as vice president.

"We congratulate Katrina Young on her election to vice president of the Georgia School Boards Association," said Jim McBrayer, Chairman of the Rockdale County Board of Education. "Her selection reflects her passion for public education and her hard work as a school board member. Ms. Young's dedicated service to the families of Rockdale County will be enhanced with her new role as she stays on the forefront of issues affecting our schools and public education in Georgia."

“I am excited to be elected as vice president for GSBA,” says Young. “My experiences with the Rockdale County Board of Education and serving as GSBA District 4 Director have prepared me for this leadership role as I continue to represent school board members across the state and advocate for quality public education in Georgia.”

Mr. Will Wade, Chair of the Dawson County School Board was installed as president. Mr. Tom Odom, Chair of the Oconee County School Board was installed as president elect. Mr. George Bevels, with the Floyd County School Board, continues in his third year of a three-year term as Treasurer.

Prior to the conference, hundreds of school board members convened in Savannah at the Hyatt to fulfill their annual training requirements as outlined in Georgia law. GSBA offered 3 workshops to allow board members to receive training: the New Board Member Orientation, Communications Workshop and the Policy Workshop.
