January 28, 2022
Congratulations to the
2022 RCPS Virtual Spelling Bee winner, Amari Clarke of Memorial Middle School, and to the
runner-up, Mykell Perciwall of Edwards Middle School!
It was a middle school sweep as these two sixth graders went head to head in the final rounds of the district Spelling Bee, held virtually on Friday, January 28, 2022. In the final rounds, after Mykell stumbled on the word "derrick," Amari went on to correctly spell "Montmorency" (a type of cherry) and "Cantonese" to win the first place trophy.
Amari will advance to the next regional level Bee, with Mykell serving as the alternate.
A big round of applause for all our smart spellers at the district and school-level Spelling Bees! All the district Bee participants and their alternates were the top spellers at each of their schools.
Thank you to all the organizers, parents, teachers, and personnel who made this competition possible!
