Parents who want the IN-PERSON learning option (five days a week, in-person) for their child for 2022-2023 do not need to do anything. The default option for 2022-2023 is in-person learning.

Students who participate in the virtual school option for middle or high school grade levels will be enrolled through Rockdale Virtual Campus (RVC). This option has designated virtual teachers who will provide asynchronous instruction (students work independently).  Below are the FAQs regarding the 2022-2023 school year virtual option for middle and high school students.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) Grades 6-12 Virtual Learning Option 2022-2023

What are the dates for enrollment in full-time Rockdale Virtual Campus (RVC)?

The enrollment dates for RVC are March 28-April 15, 2022.

Is RVC an option for my student for the 2022-2023 school year?
Yes.  RVC is the only virtual option for grades 6-12. Please contact your school counselor, as the local school can best answer questions and provide information specific to your child’s learning needs and schedule.

Is RVC a school?
Although students would receive 100% of instruction virtually through RVC, it is a program and not a school. This is an independent virtual program for middle and high school students.

Students remain enrolled at their zoned home school and the student’s counselor will consult with student/parents to determine if RVC is the most beneficial learning option for the student.  RVC course offerings will be limited.

Will my student be able to participate in sports and activities at their home school?
Yes. Students remain enrolled at their zoned home school.

How are grades and credits reported at the end of the course?
RVC final course grades are entered into Infinite Campus and are reported on the student’s local school transcript. RVC is a program.  Students will receive all instruction and grades from RVC.  RVC grades and progress will be posted and updated through Infinite Campus per RCPS protocols.

What are the student participation expectations?

Most of the instruction will be provided in an asynchronous setting (students work independently) with RVC teachers.  For the best and most successful experience, students should plan on logging in and submitting work daily.

How much time do I need to spend working on each course during the week?
Students who enroll in RVC full-time should plan to spend 6-8 hours per weekday completing their course work. Students may work at any time during the day. The amount of time spent learning and submitting coursework each day is most important. Students may submit work during the weekends as well and may work ahead in their courses on a unit-by-unit basis.

What are the available courses?
RVC will offer core classes, world languages, limited electives and advanced courses. Students must consult with your school counselor regarding course offerings.  It will be critical for students who are enrolled in a specialty program to work closely with their zoned school’s counselor prior to enrolling in RVC as it may not be possible for RVC students to participate in specialty programs.

How does a student or parent communicate with the teacher?
While the primary form of communication with students is email, all RVC teachers are available to talk to students or parents via email or telephone. Teacher contact information is located on the district RVC website. RVC instructional support options are located on the district RVC website.  The primary vehicle of instruction is itsLearning with posted links to additional resources as needed.

Are reasonable accommodations made for students who receive special education services?
Prior to enrolling in RVC, a student’s individualized education program team (“IEP Team”) will determine if the student can receive a free appropriate public education (“FAPE”) while enrolled at RVC. If necessary, the student’s IEP Team will also consider if the student needs reasonable accommodations to access the program and services.

Are reasonable accommodations made for students who receive Section 504 services?
Prior to enrolling in RVC, a student’s Section 504 Team will determine if the student can receive a FAPE while enrolled at RVC. If necessary, the student’s Section 504 Team will also consider if the student needs reasonable accommodations to access the program and services.

Are reasonable accommodations made for students who receive English Language Proficiency services or are on an Individualized Health Care Plans?
Prior to enrolling in RVC, students who receive English to Speakers of Other Languages ("ESOL") services and/or Individualized Health Care Plans (“IHCP Plans”) will meet with the appropriate committee that is responsible for administering their plans to determine if reasonable accommodations are necessary.

Are RVC courses NCAA approved?
RVC courses only from Spring of the 2019-2020 school year through Spring of the 2021-2022 school year are approved under an NCAA waiver for NCAA Division scholarship eligibility. RVC courses beyond that date have been submitted to the NCAA program for approval.

How long does a student have to commit to RVC?
Students are not eligible to transfer until the end of the semester.
