Conyers, Ga. – Rockdale County Public Schools (RCPS) scores followed the state and nation in holding steady on the American College Test (ACT), according to results recently released by the Georgia Department of Education for Class of 2023 graduates. RCPS had an overall ACT composite score of 18.3, less than one percent change from last year’s score of 18.8.  The state and nation also had less than one percent decreases in scores of 21.3 and 19.5, respectively. A total of 264 students took the ACT which is 96 fewer students than the Class of 2022. This decrease is largely because many colleges no longer require the SAT or ACT exams for admission consideration. These scores are the most recent results from the 2023 graduates who took the ACT as sophomores, juniors, or seniors. The ACT is a national college admissions exam, which measures achievement in English, mathematics, reading and science with an optional writing component.

“Our Class of 2023 continues to show their resilience and determination for success,” said Superintendent Dr. Terry Oatts. “Despite the fact that an increasing number of colleges and universities are waiving the ACT requirement for admission, RCPS remains committed to ensuring that our students who opt to sit for this test are prepared to do well.”

RCPS offers the Pre-ACT to all 10th grade students as an additional opportunity to prepare and become familiar with the types of questions that are on the exam.  RCPS also created academic rigor maps as basic guides for students and parents to choose the best pathway for college and career readiness. Each middle and high school has the brochures available, which can also be found on our website www.rockdaleschools.org under Academics and Support.
