Middle School Oratorical Competition Clerk of Courts 2018

9 a.m. – 1 p.m., November 10, 2018, at Conyers Middle School, 400 Sigman Rd., Conyers, GA; grade 6-8; free and open to public.
Oratorical subjects are as follows:
(6th grade) "Should Americans be required to vote?",
(7th grade) "Democracy depends upon good citizenship",
(8th grade) "A big problem in local government is..."
Prizes are:
1st place $500,
2nd place $350,
3rd place $150;
(1st, 2nd, 3rd place winners named for each grade). Sponsored by RCPS, Clerk of Courts Ruth A. Wilson, Evans Tool & Die, Lexicon Technologies, Snapping Shoal EMC, Rotary Club of Conyers.
Students should prepare an original argumentative/persuasive speech that is 3-5 minutes in length. Criteria for selection include speech development, effectiveness, speech value, physical demeanor, voice, manner, appropriateness, and correctness (adapted from ToastMasters International).
